![]() ![]() Muncie on the other hand: the only traffic issues are due to construction or are train-related, the greenway is gorgeous (i didn't realize how green and lush Indiana was until I moved back from TX). I used to live in Austin, TX and the traffic was a nightmare, the greenway was kinda green, but always packed with more people than it was built for and the cost of the amenities meant that they were pretty much useless to me as a poor single dude. All things done muncie indiana full#Downtown is currently at full occupancy and there is a lot of demand to live down here, so there are several new housing projects underway. All of the businesses downtown are locally owned and within walking distance of the river/greenway. The economy never really collapsed since the University and the Ball Foundation have helped keep the community afloat with grants targeted at local businesses and the Arts. The downsides of that are obvious economically, but the upside is that the wildlife and green spaces along the White River have rebounded. Interestingly, several of the old limestone and brick churches have been purchased for basically nothing ( link), and repurposed into unique apartment units or music venues.Muncie used to be a huge hub of manufacturing but lost many of those jobs a couple of decades ago. Many of the dilapidated houses have been torn down or restored in the last 7-8 years. The FBI just put most of our corrupt politicians in prison and the current administration has been on extra good behavior and things seem to be improving. The Cost of living is 12 to 14% lower than the national average, and it still has most of the amenities you would expect from a city. Here's a decent source to answer the comparison question: The infrastructure has improved a ton in the last decade. The main amenities I need would be a nearby gym and grocery store. Ideally I plan on working from home as long as I can. When looking for houses to buy or rent, what sections of town should i avoid? I'll work from home so I'm not too concerned with any commuting to work, as of right now. Is it diverse? Any Hispanic food? Good Italian food? Any Arabic, Indian or Asian food? Any places to get good brisket in Indiana? Do places have crawfish? Whats popular in Muncie? What do locals do? What should a single early 30s male that is familiar with Texas cities and the northeast expect? Does Indiana get about as much snow as NJ, PA, NYC, CT? How many months of the year does it snow? Does the temperature drop below zero often?ĭoes it rain a lot? Is the summer humidity about as bad as the northeast?ĭo you guys get tornadoes frequently? Earthquakes or anything like that? What's the weather like? I grew up near NYC so I'm no stranger to snow. ![]() ![]() I Muncie is cheap to live in and a place where you could get more bang for your buck compared to other cheap cities. I've never been to Indiana but with the cost of living going up everywhere, I was looking around at cities to move to in the north or northeast. ![]()
